World sailing races have always held an appeal and admiration that not many sports can boast of. An interest in world sailing races, unlike an interest in a common game like football or hockey can quite literally be taken as an indicator of the socio economic position of the spectator. While hordes of boat and sailing race lovers gather together to watch sailing races whenever one passes through their city or town because of the sheer beauty that the whole scene of a race being carried out on water presents, the reasons for people who take up racing sailboats are wide and varied. Some of the main reasons why people simply love sailing races and find them not just attractive, but addictive to boot are:

The Thrill And The Excitement: The largest number of sailing race enthusiasts swear by the sheer thrill of racing on the high seas. For almost everybody who is a sailboat racer, there is no thrill greater than feeling the rush of wind and spray in their faces while speeding along  a watercraft. It is an experience that you can get nowhere else, and the main reason why nobody who takes up sailing races ever gives it up.

The Planning and the Competition: When it comes to the planning involved in participating in sailing races, the sport leaves almost every other game behind. This is because success in sail boat racing does not just depend upon the strength or the power of a particular team. On the other hand, neither does it depend on strategy and planning. In order to succeed at boat racing, one needs to gain knowledge not just about how to steer and speed up a sail boat best, but about how the waves and the weather are supposed to behave in particular conditions at particular places. Because of all the different elements that it combines, sailboat racing is one sport that one can never get bored of.

Man “vs.” Nature: A large number of people find sailboat racing addictive because unlike other sports where a person competes against other people with almost similar capabilities, sailboat racing involves competing against Mother Nature itself. The thrill of the sport lies not in defeating nature, but in using nature to one’s advantage as much as possible. Knowledge about the weather and the waves is as important as knowing how to steer a craft.

Camaraderie: Sailboat racing is the cradle of friendship for almost all sailing racers and most will pay testimony to the fact that their best friends are the ones they either sail with or compete against. A large number of people get addicted to this sport because of the way teams, friendships and relationships build up while sailing.

The Competition: Like every other sport, competition drives sailing races as well. However, the fact that people participating in world sailing races compete not just against one another but also against nature is responsible for doubling the excitement, energy and the passion that they have towards this sport.
