January 9th, 2008
As the pace at which normal life moves keeps on increasing day by day, the way in which we spend our leisure times are growing more and more relaxed. After all, people who work very hard also need to relax hard in order to be able to sustain the demanding pace of their lives. As more and more people turn towards options that are relaxing and leisurely, sailing holidays are gaining in popularity. This is because sailing, especially when done on an independent yacht, is a pastime which lets you decide your own course and your own pace. As consumable incomes increase and the whole world is turning to consumerism, sailing holidays, which were earlier considered to be the domain of only the rich and the famous, are gaining immense popularity among all kinds of people who want to experience both adventure and relaxation at the same time. Yes, yacht sailing is the new holiday destination and everybody who can afford one is heading towards the water bodies to spend their vacations.
Unlike old times, when you either had to own your boat or have friends who owned one if you wanted to go on a yachting holiday, the options for vacationing onboard a yacht nowadays are many in number. On top of this, you do not need to be an expert sailor in order to take your own yacht out to the sea, all you need is the will to sail, and there will be someone available who will be able to provide just what you want. So whether you got your sea legs before you started to walk or are a complete novice on a boat, whether you can shell out huge amounts of moolah or want a budget holiday and whether you want to travel alone, with your partner, family or friends, you will always be able to find a sailing holiday that suits your needs. All you need in order to go on a yacht sailing holiday nowadays is the will to do so.
There are loads and loads of beautiful sailing destinations, and trust me they are growing everyday in number. So if you are absolutely new to the world of sailing, then it is advised that you get your sea legs as soon as possible and take a sailing holiday whenever you get the time. Decide on a sailing destination or course first based on advice from friends, research and personal choice. Once you are done with the destination, you will have to decide whether you want to travel alone, with your family, or with a particular group of friends. Different types of yachts, ranging from the basic and the bare bodied to the luxurious and the sinful, are all available for charter nowadays. Since your choice of boat will most probably be dependent upon your budget, it is important that you decide in the beginning about who all you plan to share the expense with.
In case you are experienced enough to commandeer a yacht yourself, then you can chose the cheapest option and go for a bareback vessel, which is a boat that will come without a hired crew or captain. If you are not competent enough with a boat, you can also hire a skipper for your bareback vessel. People who are absolutely new to sailing can go for a yacht that comes equipped with its own crew and captain. Other options are joining a flotilla, where one skipper leads a number of yachts on a pre selected course. If you are really loaded, you should charter a luxury yacht that comes equipped not just with its own crew but also with all modern luxuries like plasma televisions, Jacuzzis and pool tables.
